About Keith
Hi there, let me tell you a bit about the person who is talking to you today.
This is a message from my heart.
You know my name and that up to now I have writen historical novels currently all set in the 18th Century. I write to keep my brain active and am fortunate to be reasonably fit in body and mind at 78. I am currently hoping to widen the scope of my works.
I come from a working class background and I’m proud of that and what I have achieved in life - so far. But I have quite recently embarked on this new venture after a lifetime of serving the community, finally as an officer in Local Government before being made redundant at 60.
I was born in Halifax in 1947 and have experienced a wide range of events and have met many people, the rich, semi-famous and the very poor and unfortunate as I pursued a career in Environmental Management, Community Safety and Economic Development working alongside East Midlands businesses both large and small, the Nottinghamshire Police and the National Health Service.
On reaching the age of 76, my wife after putting up with me for 56 years unfortunately died, leaving me to decide what I should do for my remaining time on this earth.
I have never been much good at sports, a leisurely walk now and again has kept me fit enough though to lead a full life and I now want to give something back in return for my good luck. I must admit I shall never be capable of rowing round the world to raise money for worthy charities, nor even walk from Land’s End to John ‘o Groats though I have visited both along with the most easterly and westerly points on the mainland of the United Kingdom.
I have never been abroad or had a passport. My experiences of life are therefore wide but restricted to Great Britain which worries me not. I love this Island for all it's faults.
To sum up therefore I started to write novels set back in simpler times and hopefully I can fulfil my ambition to leave a written legacy. Should I become successful all my profits will be donated to local charities. In the meantime I support those whenever I can albeit in a small way.
I am a one man band but work with many friendly collaborators who will, I hope, help me to achieve my twin goals. I hope you too will collaborate by enjoying reading my growing collection and subscribe to my newsletter blog. This is a free subscription which you can cancel at any time. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can as I pursue my last Hurrah.
Thank you for reading this far and I wish you all good health and happiness all your life.
A Poem for Fenix, 20 June 2026, by Emma Birdie
You can prescribe a way to write in verse,
But you cannot predict a life,
Only stay the course as seas grow worse,
Knowing nothing lasts, not even strife.Even when souls are buried,
When you have nestled into dust and black,
Know that creatures can be turned,
To grow from absence and from lack,Splendour, light and flame,
That mythical fire bird,
There is no expectation to write for fame,
Only let your spirit be heard.
These lines were written by a young woman who met Keith just once, for five minutes. With thanks to Emma Birdie for permission to share her words.
