The birds, you know, they do a chatter,

What they are saying doesn’t matter,

All they want is to live in peace,

They want, like us these wars to cease.

The men they come, don’t give a hoot,

They take aim, sight up and shoot,

They don’t know if I’m good or bad,

If they did they may be sad.

Because like them, I’m a simple lad,

Not the type you’d call a cad,

If called upon I suppose I’d go.

But to be honest I’d be a crow,

I’d speak out loud against barbarity,

So to be heard with great clarity.

To those above I’d be a traitor,

Shunned by those who feel much greater,

I must hang my head in shame,

To douse the loyal combat flame.

But is not life, to help the living,

Not to take, but joy from giving,

We are not alas, all alike,

These are the words of a Yorkshire Tyke.
